What We Offer

Individual Therapy

At The Practice, we provide individual therapy to children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing mental health issues, or issues around physical health, family, personal issues or work-related. We use evidenced-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Trauma-Informed Practice and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), amongst others. Our Psychologists don’t use a “one-size fits all” approach but rather, tailor the treatment around the individual to ensure it is personalized according to their needs.

We know that the same thing doesn’t work for everybody and we know how important it is to get a good fit with a psychologist and the type of therapy. As such, we are constantly ‘checking in’ with you to ensure the process is working and you are achieving your goals.

We work closely with your own General Practitioner, other specialists, and support people to ensure your care is coordinated and you feel your team is working in line with your goals.

Educational/ Developmental Assessment

Comprehensive cognitive assessments can be helpful in determining areas of strength and weakness in regards to a child or adults cognitive ability. Our psychologists are qualified in multiple areas of general cognitive assessment as well as specific learning assessments. Assessments involve several appointments in order to collect background information, an interview, conducting the assessments, and a feedback session. A comprehensive report is then completed which will help provide strategies for schools, parents, and also aid in NDIS applications where appropriate. We are able to provide these assessments on weekdays and also Saturdays to avoid disruption to school attendance.

For Groups

At The Practice, we develop and deliver groups according to the needs of our clients. If you are interested in learning more about current group sessions, your therapist or our receptionist, Merle, can provide further details.

Supervision

Dr Rachel Avery is a Board-Approved Supervisor and can provide clinical supervision for professional development for psychologists in addition to individuals seeking clinical endorsement. Supervision can be conducted on an individual basis or in a group setting.
